Open call for dance artists to Kangasala Culture Week residency

Kangasala Culture Week will take place from 5 to 12 July 2026 in the Kuhmalahti area of Kangasala, Finland. The Culture Week brings together music, visual arts, youth programs and contemporary dance. The Dance Day, an important event of the culture week, is organized by the local Taidepappila Art Center and its focus is on professional contemporary dance in a natural and rustic environment.

The Estonian partner of the residency program is Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava.

Dance artists or groups of up to 3 people who have an ongoing project or wish to start research in the field of contemporary choreography during a one-week residency in a beautiful natural environment are invited to apply.

The residency is expected to result in a 3-7 minute performance, which will be presented in the Dance Day program.

The residency offers:

  • accommodation for a group of up to three people (in separate rooms)
  • transport from Helsinki to Kangasala and back
  • breakfast and lunch
  • use of the rehearsal room Suojan Talos (where the performance also takes place), sports hall or Pilates studio
  • use of the sauna
  • fee 500eur/dancer.

The residency participant covers:

  • travel expenses to and from Helsinki
  • possible other personal expenses associated with the residency

The aim is to offer participants both a creative platform and an experience of Finnish culture.

Kuhmalahti is known primarily for the Kuhmalahti Art Pavilion – a historic art center by a beautiful lake. The Art Pavilion has long-standing ties with Estonian culture, and in 2026, this cooperation will be further strengthened in collaboration with Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava
