Open call closed for the Baltic Dance Platform & the international jury revealed

Applications for the Baltic Dance Platform – the largest contemporary dance event in the Baltic States – have closed. The event, which has previously taken place in Vilnius and Tallinn, will be held in Riga for the first time on February 9-11, 2024. The submitted works will be evaluated by an international jury consisting of five experts.

In total, 77 eligible applications were submitted in two categories: full-scale dance performance (including digital performances and dance films) and pitch presentation. 26 applications were received from Estonia, 21 from Latvia, and 30 from Lithuania. Three performances and five pitch presentations will be selected from each Baltic country to participate in the event. The results will be announced on June 20.

Baltic Dance Platform 2024 jury:

  • Julia Asperska (Poland) – art and culture manager, curator, networker and organiser. Currently she is an Associate Curator at Internationale Tanzmesse NRW in Düsseldorf. She also works as International Relations for an Uruguayan choreographer Tamra Cubas and her organisation Campo Abierto.
  • Pedro Barreiro (Portugal) – artist, artistic director of the cultural organisation O Espaço do Tempo and the Portuguese Platform for Performing Arts.
  • Johanna Ikola (Finland) – choreographer, dancer, artistic director of the contemporary dance festival Full Moon Dance.
  • Bush Hartshorn (United Kingdom) – one of the important figures of the UK performing arts scene, who has worked for more than 40 years as a community artist, playwright, theatre programmer and artistic director. Bush now works as a dramaturg and mentor with artists in Europe, Taiwan, and Australia. 
  • Gergely Talló (Hungary) – curator and producer, director of the Hungarian contemporary dance organisation Workshop Foundation.

The Baltic Dance Platform is an event, curated by three Baltic states, where Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian contemporary dance art is presented, and artists have an outstanding opportunity to gain international exposure and to make new connections with representatives of the dance industry from all over the world. The first Baltic Dance Platform took place in 2019 in Vilnius, and the second one was held in 2022 in Tallinn, Estonia. Further information is available at balticdance.org.

The Baltic Dance Platform is organised by the Latvian Dance Information Center, the Lithuanian Dance Information Centre, and the Estonian contemporary dance platform Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava.
